Can connecting another computer to my network influence the connections of the other computers?
Q. I had two computers both connected to a wireless router. Yesterday I connected a third computer to the network and, although the connection goes through for this new computer, one of the original computers now says "Limited or no connectivity" and cannot connect to the Internet. Is it possible that the new computer is using up too much bandwidth and is therefore preventing the other computer from accessing the Internet?

How do computers and electronics actually work?
Q. I know the mechanics of computers and the other parts to them and how they function but how did they get the function to function? No matter how hard I think, I can't think of how computers and other things got the function to function? Like, how did the people develop an artificial code and put it into the chips and things to allow them to function? It seems impossible but it is possible because we have it. Like, how can people put codes into metal and other non-living substances to allow them to support articifial intelligence and things? Like, people can type, use programs, access and do things on computers just because of chips and other components to computers. How and why is it possible?

A. Computers--difficult subject. It all comes down to on/off switches. On is a one (1) and off is a zero (0). Anything can be represented with enough 1s and 0s. That is called Binary code. The value of the digit multiplies by 2x for every digit to the left. 0 is zero 1 is one 10 is two 11 is three 100 is four, etc. On a keyboard, all letters and symbols and numbers have a special code of numbers, called ASCII. One can send a letter or series of letters (words) by ASCII numbers between programs, and between machines. The ASCII numbers are in binary form. If you have four binary numbers together, it is a bit. 1001 is nine If you have eight binary numbers together, it is a byte. 01100011 is ninety-nine You can save the bits and… [cont.]

A. hi, First of all let me tell you one thing that before microsoft there was very little scope for personal computers and softwares related to those computers. Still there were some softwares and software building programming languages. FORTRAN or formula translation, the first high level programming language, was invented by John Backus for IBM, in 1954, and released commercially, in 1957. It is still used today for programming scientific and mathematical applications. Fortran began as a digital code interpreter for the IBM 701 and was originally named Speedcoding. John Backus wanted a programming language closer to human language, which is the definition of a high level language. At that time the softwares available were Aldus Pagemaker,… [cont.]

others computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer?
Q. i would like to set my computer up to be a server in my network,so i ran network setup wizard from control panel. But when i choose "This computer connect directly to the internet, the other computer in my network connect to the internet through this computer" it keep saying :"others computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer". What is the problem actually?
Asked by Noelstelrooy - Thu Jan 28 06:49:27 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Do you have two network cards? You have to have two cards, one that connects to the net and the other card that the computers use to connect to your "server". Usually when it says "other computers cannot connect to the internet through this computer" it is because there is only ONE network interface which just does not allow network sharing! Basically you are turning your computer into a router for the other machines and that needs more than one network connector in order to work.

How to connect 2 computers to the internet?
Q. I have got 1 computer which is connected to the internet using a virgin media modem. But i recently bought a new computer and i want to connect that to the internet aswell. I have got a Belkin wireless router that can connect both computers to the internet. I have installed the software for one computer but i can't do it for the other one. Please help!

A. Odds are you probably don't need to install the CD on the 2nd computer. I'm assuming you are using DHCP, which simply means letting the wireless router send the IP addresses, etc. to the computers on your lan automatically. You've probably already done this but I'll mention it just in case so we have a complete picture. Your wireless router is now connected to your ISP's modem, and your 2 computers are connected to that. Now, 1 of the computers is connecting fine but the other wasn't able to install the CD so it's not, yes..? I'd try going to the Control Panel on the machine that isn't connecting and try the Windows Wizard to try and create a new internet connection. Just tell it to automatically get the settings from the wireless… [cont.]

How to set up a computer network for three computers?
Q. We have 3 computers at work and are trying to connect them all together so that one can be the main server and the other two can dump files into it. It is okay if they are all open because we are on a secure network. As long as we can dump files into each others computers. One of the computers is running Vista and the other two are running XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Asked by Nick S - Wed Feb 18 11:42:34 2009 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. They are only secure if NONE of them have Internet access. If this is so then the inexpensive, and very secure way is to network them together using network cables joining at a "Hub"(simply put - a dumb router) or a router. The router is easier, but if it has wireless, you will have to disable it(wireless) to prevent access from others. You may have to take some time to configure firewall and or antivirus software to allow access to all PC's on the network. You can actually turn off all firewall software since you will have a secure network. But I would advise leaving Anti-Virus running.(it can also prevent network access)

A. I'm a network engineer with 30 years of experience. The answer is YES. There are parts called blade servers that are designed in this way, but in your case, you are going to have to do it at the software level. Back when Windows NT first came out was a project called CONDOR, which was designed to share resources amoung networked computers. The SETI project also has a screen saver that people can load on their computers that helps them calculate the search for signals from other worlds. This SETI program uses your CPU/Memory power and combines it with others from around the world. You can do the same thing with your OS, but first you are going to have to start with lots of research. The types of hardware you have, CPU, Memory, Mobo,… [cont.]

How to stop a computer on my home LAN from accessing internet but allow access to other computers on LAN?
Q. I use Windows filesharing and would like to stop one computer on my LAN from accessing anything but other computers on my local network- I do not want it to be able to access the internet. Can anyone recommend how to do this? I would like this to be something configured in Windows itself since I do not want all partitions on the computer to be unable to access the internet. Just one of them.
Asked by dave - Sat Jun 27 20:35:26 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As previous answers have mentioned, you could configure a firewall rule in your router to block that computer from getting to the Internet. If your router doesn't have that functionality, you could configure that computer with bogus / fictitious DNS addresses. Of course, I would suggest using private IP addresses for this. You could log in the computer as administrator to make those changes, and then the person could have a plain user account, and even if they knew what was going on, they couldn't make changes since it's just a user account. That computer would still be able to see the Windows network, because Windows uses netBIOS for that.

How many computers can be connected to the Internet using a wireless router?
Q. I have a Comcast provided wireless router at home. 4 of us can surf the net with no problems. However a 5ht and a 6th computer cannot be used to connect to the Internet. Is there an upper limit on how many computers can talk to the Internet when one uses a wireless router? Or is there something we are doing that is not right?
Asked by nebir - Mon Sep 11 16:34:50 2006 - - 12 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Depends on the router. Most wireless routers have a setting for the number of IP addresses that the DHCP server will allow at one time.

A. Well, for a start, you will be connected to your ISP's server, so you don't want to disconnect that one. If you run MSN Messenger or some of messenger program, that will be maybe another couple of connections. I've just looked on my PC, and I have 60 open connections to other computers. I am not connected to any network, just have my broadband access to my home. If you open a DOS window (Start->Run, type 'cmd' in the box for Windows XP, type 'command' in the box for some older versions of windows.) and type the command "netstat", it will show all open connections. You can also type "netstat 5" to make it refresh every 5 seconds (CTRL-C to stop). These connections are normal. If you shutdown all your internet programs, and see more… [cont.]

How to limit internet speed to specific computers on a network?
Q. My household network consists of a router and 3 other computers connected to it. If I wanted to limit the download speed of a certain computer, what should I do? I can completely remove access to a computer in the router settings, but I only want to remove the power to Bit torrent for that computer.

A. Okay. to do such a thing you would need a higher class router. You are looking into very advanced interfaces to do such a thing, and routers that can do that. are not regular all homes routers. Another way, cheaper and free. is get utorrent. www.utorrent.com It lets you set how much "internet" or bandwidth you want the program to use. Even for uploads. So you can set it to maybe 100 kpbs for download, and 20 for upload. Doesn't affect anything but what u just told it to. Good luck

A. This may or may not work, but it's worth a try: This requires hooking up both computers with a ethernet cable. After you connect them, go to your Network Connections and right click on your Local Area Connection and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab and you should now see a little tick box that says "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
